I haven't used this blog in a really long time but today seems like the right day to put a post up about one of my favorite people in the whole world. This is part of "Show Me Your Singles" day on Kelly's Korner!

Jamie is 31 and lives in Colorado Springs,CO. She is the most amazing person I know. She is very outgoing and loves life! She is very involved with her church, traveling to do missions work in China, India, and Africa the past few years. She loves to make people laugh and is very good at it :)

She works in the medial field and enjoys being outdoors hiking, camping or attending sporting events in her spare time.

She is the happiest when she is making a huge difference in the lives of people!

I am playing catch up with post today. It is hard to believe the Noah is 9. This time of year we really think a lot about Noah's birth parents and the amazing gift they gave us when they placed Noah with our family. Noah loves when we sing Happy Birthday to him but does not enjoy other people singing it :-)

Happy Spring

It is a snowing spring day here in Colorado but with the snow I am sure spring flowers will follow. Or so they say!

The days have been busy here. Noah has been having a lot of medical test done and we are still not sure what is going on with him, a few more test to go and hopefully some answers. Nick has been busy at school, he loves his oceanology class. We have had our sweet little niece, Maci a lot because of some hard family issue. We LOVE having her and enjoy the time she spends with us. Lots of fun photos from the past few weeks, including Easter eggs. Happy Spring, my friends!

I made it through the big Inclusion Conference and I am about to embark on a trip to DC and then I will be home for awhile! Noah is getting ready for a school music, he is going to be a lion, about the cutest lion I have ever seen!

I know, I know the holidays are over. I am working on getting the holiday banner down but life has been crazy around here. A quick update...

This is the busiest time of the year for my job, I put in long hours, long days and a few trips to DC. I promise to post more in March, if I survive February!

Dave's dad is doing much better and is planning on going home to Woodland Park this weekend. Dave did a little remodeling to his bathroom at home so it is accessible and really, really nice!

The boys are both doing well and helping add to the craziness of our lives :)

We had a small party for New Year's. My sister was still here and two of Dave's brothers came over. The kids all had fun and so did the adults. We played a few games and ended the night with the annual Harmon New Year's tradition, playing Celebrity! Nick and Noah stayed up until midnight and did we ever pay the price the next day :)

We had a great Christmas, Grandpa Harmon was home for Christmas! We had an ugly Christmas sweater "contest". It was hard to pick a winner :) The boys got all they asked for and more.

School is out, my shopping is done and my sister arrives today! I am as ready as I am going to get for Christmas. I can't wait for my sister to come, we are going to the Bronco game tomorrow where the high is suppose to be 14 brrrrrr! Dave's dad is still in the rehab hospital, the recovering is slow but he is doing the best he can!

Papa Update

Papa Harmon has been moved to the Rehab hospital and we hope he will be home in time for Christmas! Yeah!!

Our beloved Papa Harmon has been very sick. We thought he had the flu and so he went to the hospital for fluids. Well, two weeks later and he is still there! His appendix burst and compromised his intestines, he had emergency surgery last Sunday to have his appendix and part of his intestines out! He was in ICU for 3 days and he is still recovery in the hospital. He is a very strong 81 year old man but this has really taken a toll on him. My boys love their Papa and have missed seeing him. We all hope he is home for Christmas, that would be the best gift!

Finding the Perfect Tree

We decided to do a Norman Rockwell family adventure, cutting down a Christmas tree! We went up to Rampart Range, with a permit, and picked a tree. Dave, Noah and I loved walking in the mountains looking for the perfect tree. Nick on the other hand hated being that close to all the trees and he thought we had lost our minds when we actually cut the tree down. We looked for about 45 minutes and finally decided on a tree. We cut it, hauled it up the hill and loaded it onto the truck. We then went for drinks :)

Another House Guest!

We are dog sitting our friends dog Meka (or Mika as Noah calls her) Noah is always so excited to have a dog at our house. Dave and I like having a dog and then sending the dog home :) Noah got up this morning and starting reading Curious George to Meka. Too cute!

Advent

One memory I have as a kid is doing an advent calendar. It is also a memory I hope my kids will remember. My mom used to get the calendars with candy in the windows and I have done that in the past. My wonderful family in England also sends the boys a calendar each year. This year I found an advent calendar called Lego City. Each day you open up a window and get Legos and each little item is a part of the city. It is really cute but I have to say my boys like the "old fashion" one just as much. Nick really likes that the one from England says how many days until Christmas on the inside of the window. Noah came home from school on Monday and saw the calendars ready to be opened but I told him he had to wait until Nick got home from school. He waited a few minutes and then told me he was hungry, I asked him what he was hungry for and he said "chocolate!" and pointed to the calendar. It was funny that he remembered last year there was chocolate in the calendar.

It is snowing in Colorado today and Noah is so happy! Dave loves the snow too because he loves to drive the 4-wheeler to plow all the neighborhood sidewalks. Noah got up this morning and ran to open the blinds so he could see the "nows" as he calls it. It is a happy day for Noah :)

A large number of the Harmon family (and my sister Jill!) went to Las Vegas for the SEMA Car Show and a very big birthday celebration. My niece, Melissa turned 21 and so we all had a great time helping her celebrate. We enjoyed two shows, Chris Angel and Mama Mia. Well, ok a few of us enjoyed Mama Mia!

I am not sure where the time has gone but I did just look at the calendar and it really is November. I didn't even blog in Oct. Here are a few Oct highlight. Enjoy!

Halloween is always a fun time for the boys. Auntie Jill got off easy this year, usually she makes Nick and Noah's costumes but this year she only had to make Noah's!Nick decided to be a woopie cushion, perfect! Noah was a gorilla and I have to say one of the cutest.

Noah spends a lot of time with Riley and Carter, their mom Lisa has watched Noah since before she had Riley and Carter :-). For three weeks in August I am watching all the boys on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. It is a real treat to see the boys play together. Last week we painted birdhouses, it was a lot of fun and a lot of paint!

Nick and I went to Boston for the National Down Syndrome Congress Convention. It is always so much fun to see so many people with Down syndrome, 2500 give or take a few ( I saw a few I would take)! Nick takes part in the self-advocates conference and I hang out and talk a lot. I like to call it networking :-) Nick and I played tourists and I have officially turned into my mom, poor Nick. I made him walk most of the Freedom Trail with me, he was dying at the end and it reminded me of walking in London with my mom :-)

4th of July Weekend

A big weekend in the Harmon house. On the 4th of July we went to a parade in Monument. It was a little hokey but a lot of fun. Dave and Noah also went to the pool and Nick and I went to the Rapids soccer game and the fireworks. Noah is terrified of the fireworks so Dave stayed home and protected Noah and Tui (more on Tui later!). On the 5th of July, my 40th birthday, we went on a mountain drive with Tui. We are dog sharing, I mean dog sitting, so we took Tui with us into the mountains. He LOVED it, he hunted for bears (not really), went swimming in the lake and shared Noah's lunch :-) We stopped at my favorite restaurant for dinner and margaritas! Today is the 6th and the first Sunday you can buy liquor in Colorado so we are off to the liquor store to buy beer just because we can :-)

Noah had a big adventure in Walt Disney World! I went to Orlando for work and took Noah along for some fun. We went with Barb and Bronwen from PEAK and we had a great time. Noah loved seeing Buzz and Woody, riding the new Toy Story ride at Disney Hollywood Studios, the Lion King Show at Animal Kingdom, the Tea Cup ride at Disney World, Splash Mountain, and the highlight was the safari ride at Animal Kingdom. Noah loves to be outside and loves to "pretend". My office is closed on Friday's in the summer so we had a nice day at home. I had to share a few photos of a day in the life with Noah...

OK, so Noah is wearing a swimming suit (we are not at a pool or going swimming!) and a cape my sister (yes, the amazing Auntie Jill) made him! He is playing super hero with Tui. Next thing I know here he is...

Noah got Dave's tools and took a part his bubble grill. He was working so hard, he got each screw out and had the whole thing a part. The nice thing is that he put it all back together!

There are a few things my boys love to have at our house, one is Baby Maci (see birthday post) and the other is TUI! Tui belongs to the Darden's, the wonderful family who watches Noah (and Nick). Tui belongs to the Darden's but we are trying to see if we can file some kind of court order for joint custody, just kidding. We LOVE having Tui at our house, we get him when the Darden's go on vacation. If you haven't heard the Christmas dog sitting story you have to ask me about it, one clue is Tui's tail(or lack of!). The boys (all of the Harmon boys!) have enjoyed playing with Tui and I have enjoyed my walking partner. The first day I think Tui walked me but we had a long conversation about the roles of dogs and humans and things are much better now. We have also been taking Tui to the dog park where he has made a lot of new friends, including Lucy the Great Dane! Noah thinks Tui is a "big dog" but his eyes about popped out of his head when he saw Lucy.

Indiana Jones!

Noah has always loved Woody from Toy Story but he now has a new hero and he is much cuter :-), Indiana Jones! We took the boys to see the movie on opening weekend, Nick could hardly wait and Dave and I were glad he was excited. Noah wasn't sure and when it first started he asked it it was time to go home yet but when Indiana Jones used the bullwhip and the sword he was sitting on the edge of his seat with his big brown eyes wide open! So now he is obsessed with everything Jones. He wants Auntie Jill to make him a costume. For those of you who don't know my wonderful sister, Jill, has made Nick's and Noah's (and a few other kids!) costumes every year. I don't think my kids know you can buy costumes! I told Jill the other day and she said she thought she could make one but we would have to buy the hat and the whip. Well I am here to tell you I found a great blog (one of my favorites!) and it has the instructions for making a whip out of duct tape. Sound's like a project for Dave, a chance to buy duct tape. I think that is every man's dream, well maybe not :-) Today we are off to the mountains on a real
Indiana Jones adventure, hopefully minus the snakes but you never know. Enjoy the day!

Noah's Cake

Noah couldn't wait to eat his birthday cake. When I brought it home on Saturday he asked if he could have some, I told him he needed to wait until the next day. Noah went over to the steps and laid down and pretended to be asleep. He got up and said "oh, I slept and now can eat cake!" Too funny, and a little too smart for his own good :-).

The Harmon family does not do "small". We decided to have a Mother's Day luncheon for Patty (Dave's Mom) and it was going to be a small get-together. Well, 40 some people later we celebrated! Noah turns 8 (yes, 8!) on Tuesday and we decided to combine Mother's Day with Noah's birthday, 8 years ago Noah was born on Mother's Day so it seemed fitting. The best present Noah got was having "baby Maci" come and stay with us! Maci is my nephew Cole's sweet little baby. Noah has loved Maci since the first time he saw her, ok it is not hardship duty for me either! All the Harmon kids, big and little had a great time playing in the backyard, eating great food and enjoying all that the Harmon family is, big or small!

Weird illness

If anyone in our family was going to get a weird illness it would be Noah! A few weeks ago he had a skin rash on his arm. Everyone thought it was an allergy but it didn't go away and started covering his whole body. I took him to the Doctors on Thursday and he was diagnosed with Gianotti-Crosti Syndrome! They say it will go away on it's own after 6-8 weeks!!

Today was a nice day so we decided to walk to the park. It is a short walk but with the poking puppy (AKA Noah) it took about an hour, so no power walk for me :-). The boys had fun playing in the sand with their truck. After awhile a cute little boy named Nick (spelled Nickolas, as he informed me!) came over and asked me if Noah went to Scott. Scott is the school that Noah and our new friend Nick (spelled...well you get the idea!) go to. Nick said he had seen Noah at school and always wondered about him. I thought here goes the questions about why is he so small, why can't I understand what he says, fill in the blank with all the question we always get. In his cute little 6 year voice, Nick said I always wondered were he got his cool cowboy boots from. Too funny. He didn't see Noah as being different he saw Noah as the boy with the cool boots, the cool boots his Grandma and Papa Harmon got Noah for Christmas! If only adults could see past all that Noah isn't to all that he is, what an amazing idea. I will always remember today and our new friend, Nick (spelled Nickolas!)

Noah has found his "thing" in life, Capoiera! Thanks to our friend, Bronwen or TT to Noah. Bronwen has been telling me for awhile that I need to sign Noah up so we went last week for a trial and signed him up. Noah is really good (really!!) at the kicks. He needs to learn more about Capoiera (OK, so do I!) but he likes it a lot.

Rapids Soccer!

Nick, Barb, Bronwen and I got "half" season tickets to the Rapids MSL soccer. We like the fact that most of the games are played on beautiful Colorado summer nights. Opening night happened to be a cool Colorado March night but no snow so we were all very happy. It was also the first time David Beckham of the the LA Galaxy (or to some of you Mr. Posh Spice!) played in Colorado. He seemed liked a very nice guy and hey, he is nice eye candy (sorry Bronwen!) The Rapids played a great game and won 4-0. We thought we were watching a hockey game for a few minutes when a fight broke out but after a few red cards the SOCCER game started again.

A few "back" posts to catch us for March! The boys enjoyed hunting for their Easter baskets that they finally found in the office. Noah got moon sand and a chocolate bunny! I have heard a lot about moon sand and my friend Barb kept telling me I had to get it for Noah so I finally did. He loved the sand and now wants all the colors! If you haven't played with moon sand it is worth buying some and see how soft it really is. Be a kid for a day and tell yourself you are "testing" to make sure it is safe for all the kids in the world.

I have enjoyed reading blogs for awhile and finally decided to start one with all the adventures the Harmon's have. I hope to update often (with photos) but life is very busy so we will see how that goes. I think this will be a fun way for friends and family to see a glimpse into our world. Enjoy!
